Marseille

We had multiple excursions while in France. One weekend we went to Marseille and Avignon. We spent the day in Marseille, and although some people went back to Grenoble that night, some of us got a cheap hostel and stayed the night then went to meet everyone in Avignon the day later.

When we got to Marseille, our program director just dropped us off at the most random beach that was the farthest away from anything. It was a bit poorly planned. The beach was amazing, however, and we spent hours just chilling and swimming in the Mediterranean. Somehow we managed to figure out the bus system and go to our meeting place, because we definitely were given zero directions.

We took a ferry over to Chateau d'Ife, where The Count of Monte Cristo was set. It was cool, and gave a good view of the city.

I'm obsessed with spiral staircases.

Some of us stayed in Marseille for the night, so we wandered around a bit. There's this huge mirror-like table thing by the old port that a ton of people stand under and take pictures. Kind of like the bean in Chicago. We went there at night, and there was a girl juggling fire under it. Her hair caught fire, but she handled it like a pro, I'd say.

All in all, we definitely needed more than a day in Marseille. It was a huge city, and we only did two things, but it was still fun to relax on the beach a bit.
